VAX/VMS v4.7 “Turnkey” Distribution

This following page is a temporary landing page for the VAX/VMS 4.7 turnkey system distributions. There are twois one systems being distributed, firstly the “large” system including (almost) all layered products, for the VAX 8650 and VAX-11/780, and a “small” system intended as a demonstrator of VAXstation 100 graphics and a NJE services peer. The “small” system is being reworked and the present kit, while usable, is deprecated. A new kit will be forthcoming.

To reduce the overall storage use of the simulator kits, all the VAX/VMS media has been consolidated into a singular media distribution. By default it extractst to the vms47/dist/media directory. For the other kits, it is recommended you simply create a symlink to that directory, in the kit specific dist folder. The kit may be downloaded from: VAX/VMS v4.7 Software Media Kit

The distributions may be found at the following links:

  1. VAX/VMS 4.7 “Large” Turnkey Distributions (795VAX:: and 780VAX::)
  2. VAX/VMS 4.7 “Small” Turnkey Distribution (NJEVAX::)

The VAX/VMS 4.7 distributions consists of software distribution media, and a SIMH expect-script which will automatically install all VAX/VMS version 4.7, as well as layered products — more on that in the description of each “turnkey” system.

VAX 8650 “Turnkey” System

This is the “large” distribution which builds on a rather well configured VAX 8650 (or VAX-11/795 if you prefer to stick it to the Digital marketing department man, as it were), as well as most of the available layered products that have been found. The current version is that of September 30, 2023. The current list of software in the turnkey system includes the following:

VAX-11/730 “Turnkey” System

This is the “small” distribution which builds on a minimally configured VAX-11/730. The current version is that of September 30, 2023. The current list of software in the turnkey system includes the following:

Perform this turnkey's installation after the “large” system has been installed. And once the “large” system has been started up. Otherwise it will “freeze” during a portion of the JNET configuration script, waiting for DECnet to come up.
